Top Guitar Accessories Must-Haves

Why do you need guitar accessories? For one, they provide protection for the guitar. Another reason is that they enhance its sound and tune. Moreover, they can help the guitar player feel more comfortable while playing the instrument. Whatever your reason is for buying accessories for your guitar, here are some of the most important ones that you should have.

1. Guitar bags or cases

The first item on the list is the guitar bag or case that will hold the instrument and protect it during travelling. A guitar case is sturdier compared to the bag but if you will not do too much travelling, a padded guitar bag would suffice. It would be nice to get a case or bag that comes with pouches or pockets where you can put music books and other accessories. Choose one that comes with a shoulder strap so that carrying it will not be a hassle.

2. Guitar tuner or pitch pipe

This is used to keep the guitar in tune. Because there are various kinds of tuners or pitch pipes available in the market, you need to find a good brand so you can be assured of good quality and durability.

3. Guitar strings

It is smart to always have a spare set of guitar strings because you never really know when the strings are going to break. If you have an electric or acoustic guitar, you will need to buy an extra set of steel strings while nylon strings are required for classical, Flamenco and Spanish guitars.

4. Amplifiers

These devices, which are used by electric, bass, and electro-acoustic guitars, are connected to the instrument through a lead. You can choose from a wide variety of amplifiers in the market, most of them range from 10 watts to 500 watts. There are practice amps, standard amps, mixer amps, speakers and monitors, combo amps, amp heads, and bass amps.

5. Guitar stands or hangers

While the guitar case is used for storage, guitar stands or hangers meanwhile are used for displaying the guitar or keeping them in a place where the guitar player can easily access them. The different kinds of guitar stands that you can choose from include standard, universal, auto grab, and wall mounted.

6. Plectrums

More commonly known as picks, these pieces of guitar accessories are used for playing the guitar. They are very cheap and they usually come in packs of six. Picks with thin gauges are used for classical, Spanish, and Flamenco guitars, medium ones are suitable for electric and acoustic, and thick ones are for the bass guitars.

7. Guitar straps

If your guitar does not come with one, you would find it helpful to get a guitar strap so that you can be more comfortable when playing this instrument even when you are not seated.

8. Guitar Capo

This refers to a clamp that you attach on the different frets of the instrument to change the pitch of the open strings. As you know, each fret is a half step and if you put the capo on the first fret, the open strings would have a one-half step higher tone than normal.

9. Guitar Stool

A guitar stool is another accessory that can put the guitar player at ease during playing.

Guitar accessories have a wide variety of uses. While you do not have to buy everything for your guitar, you can choose those that will be of practical use for you.
